A lot of Occupiers were never interested in elections because they felt the electoral process was part of the problem.

I walked down to the camp in People’s Park a few days before they broke it down.  There were about six people hanging around.  They were die-hard occupiers and they viewed their Occupation as a huge success.  I told them I thought it was cool that Occupy Providence was unique in securing a tangible victory (the day shelter) while ending peacefully.  A fellow told me that wasn’t all they’d done, that they’d “put pressure on Brown” to make greater payments to the city, they’d marched in solidarity with labor and community organizations, they’d gotten “millions of dollars” transferred from Bank of America (at this he pointed across Kennedy Plaza to the Superman building) to local credit unions.

“This is only the beginning,” another one of them told me emphatically.
