Laffey is Going to Run for Governor in 2010

Posted by: Matt Jerzyk in 2010 Governor

Despite his statements to the contrary, conservative activist Steve Laffey will most certainly be running for Governor in 2010 - either as a Republican (if the primary is closed) or as an Independant.

The advantages of waiting to jump into this race are obvious:

  1. He keeps his powder dry while Chafee, Caprio and Lynch bloody each other up.
  2. He can allow a "draft Laffey" movement to "convince" him to run.
  3. Jumping in at the last minute reinforces his "savior" narrative that he used successfully in "coming back to save" Cranston.
  4. He can continue to transition the RI Tea Party "organization" into his own campaign organization; witness Laffey's scheduled keynote speech at the Tea Party event tomorrow night.
Remember, you heard it here first.

I think it's quite humorous that Laffey's name keeps popping up everywhere, especially for someone who is so committed NOT to run...

Laffey is a narcicist. He is waiting for the mainstream leaders of the Republican party -the ones who backed Chafee over him - to come begging. And they may just do that when the see the polling results for Robitaille.

Look for an announcement on Holy Thursday and check the local stables to see if any donkeys have been rented.

There's no doubt that a constituency exists for Laffey. The same ones that would gladly cheer on people like billionaire Pete Peterson of the Blackstone group, and his views on the "retirement crisis," if only they read, are the people who would gladly eliminate the contributions of cities and towns to the retirements of public employees. Nothing new there. It's just, "Beggar thy (next door) neighbor," that's all.

But to fear him? That's like fearing some bloated dope who never did anything notable in his life, other than to act thickheaded and dysfunctional.

Some of us are sick of stupid people and their bigotry.

Unlike, our former prez, I try not to "misunderestimate," but like the aforementioned fellow, I, too, prefer to say,
"Bring it."

You mean...that Laffey lied?

I'm shocked-Shocked!

As always, it's always about him. And I loved the comment about the donkey.

Wasn't it obvious that Laffey was running?

And why should we not cheer him on? Steve Laffey is the only candidate who released some semblance of a plan. The other four declared candidates seem to have no idea what they'd do in office as Governor. We might as well leave Carcieri in because the other four don't look ready at all.

If Steve Laffey's entrance forces a discussion on issues and planning, we need to thank him dearly for it.

Having lived in Cranston during the Laffey years I can safely say he does not discuss. He pontificates. And what he will pontificate is the same old union bashing municipal aid and social spending rhetoric we got from Carcieri. If you think he was close minded in his refusal to work with the legislature, a laffey governorship would be so much worse
