Members and community keys to ufcw local 328 victory

Posted by: Seamus in Labor

Many thanks to all who supported UFCW Local 328's successful effort to gain a fair and equitable new three year agreement with Stop & Shop. Our ratification meetings were held on sunday at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet.  The contract, which protects and improves the existing health & welfare plan, continues to fund the defined benefit pension fund at the current level, and included a ratification bonus as well as general wage increases throughout the 3 years was overwhelmingly and passionately accepted by the hard working members of the union. To those of you who utilized the 100% off coupon, (thanks to Pat Quinn for that idea) and told the store mgrs that you would not shop in the event of a strike, the members are deeply indebted to you.To those of you who "adopted a store" and handbilled on behalf of the workers, I assure you they will never forget it. But the most important and effective weapon in our arsenal was the members themselves.Proud union members who  handbilled customers on theuir breaks and tme off, who informed their customers and empowered them to have conversation with store mgmnt on their behalf and therefore got a clear message sent to corporate that the community supported the workers! Congratulate eachother. You all deserve it.

A union is only as strong as its members and UFCW stood steadfast throughout and should be proud. Congrats on the new contract and Local 328 is lucky to have you Jim.
