What the hell is Pecha Kucha?

UPDATE:  In what other city could you find sharing a stage a former Republican US Senator, the Director of the Providence Chamber of Commerce.....and me?  From the shameless self-promotion department, the event tonight starts at 7:20, I should go on about 8:20.  This is the one year anniverary of Pecha Kucha and because Dan Bass will be the highlight of the night it should be packed!  Get to Waterplace Restaurant at 1 Finance Way, PVD (oh, the irony) early to see the show.

Here is one of my pictures from tonight's show:

What the hell is Pecha Kucha? And how do you even say the name?

It is actually this pretty cool community gathering that happens monthly where folks get together for a version of grown up show and tell. About a half dozen presenters get 20 slides, and 20 seconds  a slide, to tell a story, explain an issue, display a project, etc.

I will be one of the presenters at the very special one year anniversary of Pecha Kucha next Wednesday night. Titled "...if I can't dance" 20 slides connecting Terrorism, Art, Labor, Poetry, and the theft of Rock n Roll by Conservatives. Please stop by!  You can register on FACEBOOK.

Announcing the 12th night and ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Pecha Kucha in Providence! The theme, dedicated to the summit in Providence with the same name, and which will be sandwiching Pecha Kucha from March 9-11, is: Connecting Creative Communities. If you haven't yet heard of this global yet unpronounceable phenomenon, Pecha Kucha is a monthly format for sharing ideas, in which presenters are allotted 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide. Put simply: 6 minutes and 40 seconds of adult-style show & tell. It began in Tokyo in 2003, has since spread to 280+ cities worldwide, and landed in Providence one year ago in March.

Doors open at 19:20, presentations start at 20:20, and shmoozing goes down throughout.

***Wear your dancing shoes, because after the presentations, we're celebrating our one-year with a dance party to DJ duo Micah Jackson.***
