From Duane Clinker:
Friends:
From the struggle for food, a roof, clothing, and medicine, Doc was there. From the struggle of the new immigrant whose only papers are the skin on his bones, to the oldster struggling to find a fan in this heat, to the couple who some call outcast just trying to marry, to to the worker struggling for a voice (or to keep a voice) on the job, or to the struggle against war in an age of bloody empire; Doc was there.
David's family has endorsed tonight's candlelight vigil as the Providence gathering in his sending away. This will be a powerful time as we gather at the "Mall-side" of the State House where David died. The family has arranged to have David's body brought by the area as it begins its journey to a local funeral home and eventual family plot in Bristol.
This will be an important time of relationship-building, witness, and spirit. Bring your thoughts and your anger and your grief, and your appreciation and love. This will be a time of healing and a time to re-commit to the struggle for justice for which David fought.
Bring a candle. Bring your hunger for healing and a world of mercy and justice. Bring your memories and appreciation for all Doc did and all he influenced for good and for every battle he fought. Bring your poems. Bring yourself.
We will start at 8 pm tonight.
Please forgive multiple listings. We are rushed in this.
Official calling hours will be in Bristol at the George Lima Funeral Home, this Saturday from 9 to 11, with burial to follow. Arrangements are still being formulated for those events.
