I think Cicilline actually has more in favor this time around: he’s the incumbent in a majority Democrat electorate, Dems will be going to the polls for vote for Obama, he was the local boy who beat stiff party competition last time despite carrying most of the same baggage, and the Tea Party wingnuts have lost their candidate and their clout. Unless Gemma becomes a monkey wrench, the Repubs uncover a bigger scandal, or Ciccy decides to take his seat for granted and not really campaign, he’s pretty safe.

Good analysis Brian but you kind of skipped over two points that hurt Cicilline. Cicilline outright lied to cover his city’s financial failure and then topped it by forcing the auditor to file a public records request to see the books required to perform the audit. Secondly, the redistrict process itself. Again there was the phony denial that he tried to influence the process. That’s old time bully politics. As far as rfbrown’s analysis of the Tea Party, wishful thinking. Maybe they did lose their candidate but where do you think they’ll go, Cicilline?
