To both celebrate a month of victories and to plan for the future, well over 800 people filled the cafeteria of Hope High School as Resist Hate RI convened their fourth meeting, and their first meeting since Donald Trump’s inauguration.

A recent Pew Research Center poll found that nearly two-thirds of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters would like to see their party stand up to Trump rather than work with him.

Mayor Jorge Elorza announced his intention to stand in solidarity with New York and Los Angeles to make Providence a city that will not enforce Donald Trump’s anti-immigration policies. But some thought he gave himself too much wriggle room with his commitment to pass the Community Safety Act.

“There’s a rat living in a classroom on the first floor,” said Jeremiah Ledesma, a student at Mt. Pleasant, “it pops out every once in a while when it’s looking for food. I’ve seen cockroaches walk across the lunchroom floor.”
