This might be the first time that Whitehouse has publicly agreed to review a local fossil fuel infrastructure proposal with an eye towards possibly coming out against it.

It looks like the idea of Pawtucket being the back up water supplier to Invenergy’s proposed power plant in Burrillville may never get off the ground.

On Tuesday night the North Smithfield Town Council voted unanimously to oppose Invenergy’s $700 million fracked gas and diesel oil burning power plant, and on Wednesday evening a second unanimous vote opposing the power plant happened in Lincoln.

The Energy Facilities Siting Board public hearing in Warwick Wednesday evening was filled with almost philosophical reflection, with many speakers commenting with a battle weary determination and steely resolve.

National Grid not only wants Rhode Island ratepayers to subsidize for the build up of fracked gas infrastructure, they want consumers to ensure that the project is profitable for the company.

I think the biggest message here, though perhaps not the one Whitehouse intended to deliver, is that the residents of Burrillville can count on getting no help from their Senator on this issue.
They are on their own.
