Wednesday: Register to Vote in Burnside Park

New Leaders Council (@NLC_RhodeIsland) and the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s Office have teamed up to host a voter registration drive and give out voter IDs.

If you need an ID to vote or if you need to register to vote, we’ll be in Burnside Park, Kennedy Plaza, in Providence on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.  Be sure to register before Oct. 6 to be eligible to vote in the 2012 presidential elections!  Make your voice heard!

If you need a voter ID, please bring one of the following: student ID, employee ID, credit or debit card, military ID, public housing ID, health club ID, health insurance plan ID.

The New Leaders Council recruits young men and women from outside traditional power structures and works to train and support them with the skills necessary to be civic leaders in their communities and workplaces.  The NLC institute provides fellows with leadership trainings in business, media and communications, campaign management, fundraising, community organizing, and political strategy.  These fellows then serve as a network of communication and support as they move into their careers throughout the country.  To learn more or to apply to be a 2013 fellow with the NLC RI Chapter, please visit www.newleaderscouncil.org

Here is the complete list of proofs of identity. Voters who do not already have a valid photo ID can show any one of the more than 20 different types of proof of identity in order to obtain a special Voter ID for free.

PS: The deadline to register to vote is actually Oct. 7. Even though the deadline falls on a Sunday, our Providence office will be open and every city and town will make arrangements for residents to be able to register — or re-register if you changed your name or moved since the last time you voted.

New Leaders Council?  You mean the anti-union front group that purports to be progressive but is actively organizing to silence to voices of teachers across the country?

    Oh, them?  How progressive…..

I don’t think the NLC is anti-union for working with those in the education deform movement any more than I think the NEA-RI is anti marriage equality for endorsing Michael McCaffrey over Laura Pisaturo.

There will be a voter registration drive in Woonsocket today too. The IBEW bus will be in Woonsocket today, meeting at 4 pm in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop in Park Square before moving out into the community.
If you’re currently not registered to vote, feel under-represented and think leadership in the city needs to change, please seek out the bus and register to vote.
The drive will be repeated again on Sunday, starting at 10 am, and both drives will have members of the Latino community present to help with translations and prevent a language barrier. Forms will be available in both English and Spanish.
