Disability rights advocate Edward Torres writes:

We need to ensure children are safe and treated with the respect and care they deserve. The police and school officials in Tiverton did a horrible thing when they took the 8 year old girl off the school bus and brought her to the police station even after no chemicals were found in her bag pack.

To make things worse, her family didn’t know they took her to the police station. Why didn’t anyone think this was wrong? Although the family received a $40,000 settlement I am sure it does not erase the trauma the children felt, and police officers and school officials must do better to protect and serve in the future.
