"We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” - Elie Weisel

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." - Desmond Tutu

"There comes a time when neutrality and laying low become dishonorable. If you’re not in revolt, you’re in cahoots. When this period and your name are mentioned, decades hence, your grandkids will look away in shame." - David Brooks

One response to “East Siders Are Outraged Over Fired Librarian”

The headline is a bit outrageous, at best it could read SOME East Siders are Outraged by Firing.

Stories like this have to be taken with  grain of salt since the Community Library leaders cannot give their side of the story on such personnel decisions.   This is both a legal requirement, but it can also be a privacy issue to protect the person fired by not releasing damaging information.   Perhaps Mr O’Donnell will choose to have an open hearing in his appeal so that facts can come out.
I know these community library leaders include those who made the time and effort to successfully rescue the branches facing abandonment from the Providence Public Library.  Obviously they care deeply about the value of Rochambeau and the other branches.
