Last year this event raised $50,000 for the Assumption Parish Food Ministry, a food pantry on the West End of Providence. Organized by Providence Rep. Scott Slater and Home Loan Bank, this year they hope to best that amount.
“The Pantry has been serving neighbors in need since the late 1960s, when Sr. Angela Daniels and Fr. Daniel Trainor saw a growing number of low-income families move into Providence neighborhoods,” according to a Facebook event. “What started as a temporary solution to help those few families in need has evolved into a necessary resource for more than 44,000individuals in the greater Providence area.”
