    I think conservatives should start talking about livable wages and regressive taxes the moment any of the progressives on this blog even so much as acknowledge that dependency is a problem in this country.

    Sorry, folks, the table above is not “all taxes”. It’s only state and local taxes.

    Also, while payroll taxes are ‘regressive’ in terms of how they’re collected, the social security benefit that is derived from them is quite progressive!  Plus, while the tax is not collected above $110K or so, neither is there any benefit derived from a higher income.
