Gordon Fox identifies himself as a Democrat, whatever that means nowadays, but he gets his talking points and policy positions straight from FOX NEWS and the Republican Party strategy memos.  Case in point, he now refers to those with income greater than $250,000 as a “job creators”.  Huh?  Hedge fund managers, Wall Street bankers, crony capitalists and heirs to billions are job creators?

Actually Steve, how is it that you’re the guy writing about Portland (indirectly), and I’m the one writing about Rhode Island? lol.

However, there is a fact you got wrong-ish — Portland *had* a strong bus system, but it has recently been cut, and is facing further cuts as well. This is a significant problem in Portland, where fewer people have cars and the city itself sprawls out just as much as Providence sprawls into Cranston, Warwick, and East Providence.

As for Gordon Fox, he strikes me as the kind of Democrat who says “well, I’m sorry I couldn’t support marriage equality, progressive taxation, or any other liberal legislation; but I want you to remember that I’m still a Democrat and definitely not a Republican, so vote for me anyway!”

Less talk, more progressive action. What we need here is someone who can step up and tax those people Bill Monroe mentions above, so that the folks who make 1/10th of that and still try to scrape by can actually use a public transit system to get to work. That person certainly doesn’t seem to be Gordon Fox.

A year later Gordon Fox still hasn’t done anything to help RIPTA that now faces an $8 million deficit in FY2013.  There is no evidence that as promiesed he worked with RIPTA supporters to accomplish anything.  While there is some vague indication that government leaders are aware they will eventually need to do something, in the meantime passengers are left wondering and employers know they cannot count on having a transit system for getting their employees to work.  This is no way to run things.
