That was a great speech, one of his best. Here’s a bit more of that quote…

The Republican narrative is that all of us who amount to anything are completely self-made. One of our greatest Democratic chairmen, Bob Strauss, used to say that every politician wants you to believe he was born in a log cabin he built himself, but it ain’t so.

We Democrats think the country works better with a strong middle class, real opportunities for poor people to work their way into it and a relentless focus on the future, with business and government working together to promote growth and broadly shared prosperity. We think “we’re all in this together” is a better philosophy than “you’re on your own.”

Bill Clinton is an amazing public speaker. Perhaps in a select group one could claim were PSI (Public Speaker Icons). He knows how to say things in such a way that the crowd, listening audience, other people in the elevator, whoever is within earshot will listen to what he has to say and agree with him or at the very least think about what he just said.
None of this changes the fact that (like many great speakers) Bill Clinton is actually Shallow Hal the Politician. Like many of the speakers at both National Conventions the message is designed to move the applause needle and garner votes. They speak to get elected not to make life better for the electorate.
We are now at $16 Trillion in National Debt. Add another $200 Trillion in unfunded promises for SS and Medicare and we are at the edge of a cliff. Think Greece. These are the facts and anyone who has been a part of our government (State or Federal) needs to acknowledge their culpability, accept their pink slip graciously and move on.
