Dr. Michael Kennedy, Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at the Watson Institute of Brown University, has many laurels, not the least of which is that he’s a contributor to RI Future. On March 10 Kennedy gave a talk at the First Unitarian Church of Providence entitled, “What Does It Mean To Be a White Ally, and Why Does It Matter?”
Also speaking at the same event was Emma Thomas of the White Noise Collective/SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) and Martha Yager of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC-SENE). Those who remember the story of former New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly‘s visit to Brown University in 2013 might want to give Yager’s talk a listen as she relates her experiences as to what happened that day.
