Invenergy was not on the official agenda but power plant opponents from Burrillville and Woonsocket used the public comment period, listed on the agenda as “Citizen’s Good and Welfare” to let their opinions be known.

The meeting of Rep Joe Kennedy III and his constituents about the proposed compressor station was remarkable from the perspective of a Rhode Islander, where no representative or senator has deigned to meet with Burrillville residents about Invenergy’s proposed power plant or with residents of South Providence, who are facing a new liquefaction facility courtesy of National Grid.

The Energy Facilities Siting Board public hearing in Warwick Wednesday evening was filled with almost philosophical reflection, with many speakers commenting with a battle weary determination and steely resolve.

National Grid not only wants Rhode Island ratepayers to subsidize for the build up of fracked gas infrastructure, they want consumers to ensure that the project is profitable for the company.

The residents of Burrillville, conscripted as actors in this this production, are changing the script even as the play is being performed. The production is going awry, and getting it back on course may prove to be impossible.
